NORA Participates in U.S. Small Business Administration Meeting Addressing Proposed EPA Rule
On May19th, NORA participated in a roundtable meeting of the US Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy regarding EPA's proposed rule on the Definition of Solid Wastes Burned in Incinerators.
Approximately 25 trade association participated including NORA, National Asphalt Pavers Association, National Automotive Dealers Association, Portland Cement Association, American Forest & Paper Association, and many more.
NORA shared with the group its positions on the the proposed rule. Here is some of the new information that came out of the meeting:
The proposed rule was expected to be published in the Federal Register last week (NORA has not confirmed that it has been published yet). Once it is published, NORA and its members will have 45 days to comment.
According to the presenter, some of the criteria in the Solid Waste rule are more stringent than HazWaste rules.
The group as a whole thought that the likelihood of the alternative approach (where virtually all on-spec used oil is a solid waste) was less likely, but that a solid effort needs to be put forth to defeat it.
The NORA Executive Committee is establishing a committee to review comments from members and to help develop potential policy choices for the Board of Directors to consider.
The comment period deadline on this rule will be several weeks after the NORA Mid-Year Meeting. Make sure you make plans to attend 2010 NORA Mid-Year Meeting.
A list of pre-registered attendees will be sent later this week.
